In the Agile world, it’s not about the number of features we deliver, but the value each feature brings to the table. ๐ฏ
It’s not about imposing limits, but fostering an environment where self-organizing teams thrive. ๐
I have been in meetings where teams are compelled to reduce the number of features they commit to and a feature limit placed.
You could see and sense the frustrations in the teams.
Sadly, when you run the feature(s) completed vs feature(s) planned in scenarios; where a feature Limit was set and where No feature limit was set.
The average feature completion percentage remained the same. Teams did not deliver more or less because a limit was imposed.
I have seen teams find creative ways to bypass “feature limit” by creating what I call “Nested Features” features within a feature.
Self organizing, self managing and motivated teams will do more and deliver great value.
Through my experience, I’ve observed that setting feature limits doesn’t necessarily increase productivity. Instead, it’s the empowerment of teams, the clarity of well-defined features, and the freedom to engage with the customers on prioritization and value that truly elevates performance.
When teams are trusted to manage themselves, free to engage with the customers on prioritization and value, and are not micromanaged, they don’t just meet expectationsโthey exceed them. ๐
Let’s focus on creating value, not counting features. Empower your teams, provide clarity, and then step back. The results might just surprise you.
It’s not about setting limits; it’s about setting them free. ๐
