I had the opportunity to spend 4th of July with a friend. We grilled some steaks and did some catching up.
Later in the evening when the weather was cooler we went out as a family to watch the beautiful fireworks at the community center.
The independence we celebrate and enjoy today as a country is hinged on the selfless sacrifices of the many men and women who were not driven by the pursuit of heroism but with pure love and genuine heart for people and the nation. May God bless their souls, families and God bless the United States of America.
However, we live in a world, where the pursuit of heroism overrides the pursuit of purpose.
In Agile leadership, we are beginning to see personal interest over team productivity.
Part of the challenge is the myriad of roles within the agile space recommended and socialized by the different agile certification organizations. Some of their frameworks and certification pathways define roles which may not have a clear-cut function within the core agile team.
Some of these pseudo roles or what I call hot desk roles, create problems for working teams. They force their way and opinions on the teams to gain relevance and influence which creates frictions.
They disrupt and destabilized team harmony and productivity because of the pursuit of heroism, fame, control, the quest to be loved and seen.
To agile certification organizations, lets minimize and collapse the hierarchy. Reduce the number of layers or roles we introduce between the core agile teams and the customer. Scaling agile doesn’t mean more roles, layers or hierarchy. The power of agile is in small self organizing, self managing and self producing team.
And to those hot desk agile owners, leave teams alone to do work, find purpose within your new role or look for innovative ways to create value that actually benefits the team rather than disrupt the team.
