I was reading a thread and saw an interesting conversation and schools of thought.
One thought was “I care less how many certifications you have or titles you carry, what is important delivering value to your customers and keeping your teams productive and motivated”
The other thought was “acquiring certifications and titles and displaying everywhere on your resume or profiles is more relevant as it gets the attention of the automatic hiring AI bot. So focus more on that”
Paused for a second and think about it, the debate between qualifications versus value delivery is more relevant than ever.
On one hand, we have the traditional markers of competence: certifications and titles. They have long been the gatekeepers to career advancement.

Yet, there’s a growing school of thought that emphasizes the actual value delivered to customers and the happiness of the team as the true measures of professional success.
I call them the ‘Substance Squad,’ who believe that the proof is in the pudding (or in this case, the work). They argue that certifications and titles are just the cherry on top, not the whole sundae.
It’s a wake-up call to prioritize capability and delivery over mere credentials and titles. It encourages a shift from showmanship to stewardship, urging candidates to develop skills that drive real business outcomes.
However, on the recruitment side, there is the so called ‘Keyword Krew’ armed with buzzwords and SEO tactics, ready to optimize their way into the heart of the AI hiring bots.
The threat, lies in the potential exclusion of qualified candidates who may not fit the keyword-centric criteria of automated hiring systems. This could lead organizations to miss out on the unique contributions and growth that these individuals could bring.
I subscribe to a new breed The ‘Human Touch,’ advocating for a blend of tech-savvy and personal touch in the recruitment process.
So, who will emerge victorious? Will it be the Substance Squad with their value-driven approach, the Keyword Krew with their algorithmic allure, or the Human Touch with their balanced strategy?
In my opinion, it should be a win for innovation, growth, productivity and a more customer centric organization.
As professionals, we must navigate these waters with care, ensuring that our hiring practices is enabling the right behaviors and evolves to meet the needs of a dynamic workforce.
What do you think? I would love to hear your thoughts on it.
